Nalanda University
This Nalanda University attracted scholars and students from as far away as Tibet, China, Greece, and Persia.
Here , sadly thousands of Buddhist monks were burned alive and thousands beheaded.
Nalanda University was ransacked and destroyed by a Turkish Muslim army under Bakhtiyar Khilji in 1193. The great library of Nalanda University was so vast that it is reported to have burned for three months after the invaders set fire to it.

Situated by the bank of river Neranjana ေနရဥၹရာျမစ္ the place was then known as Uruwela ဥ႐ုေဝလေတာ . built by King Ashoka , 304–232 year ago Before Jesus Christ .

After the Gautama Buddha's Mahaparinirvana (passing away) king Ashoka developed this place and installed one of his famous Asoka pillar. He also built a stupa and a temple here commemorating the visit of the Buddha. This temple exist even today and the ruins of the stupa are also present as a temple of Vishari Devi. It is said that the name Visahari Devi is given to the mother of the Buddha. Currently it has ruins of old monasteries and Buddhist monuments. It is rarely visited by pilgrims since it is difficult to go to, and there are not many facilities.

Ian L Fleming (1908 – 1964) was an English author, journalist and naval intelligence officer, best known for his James Bond series of spy novels, inclding Dr. No, From Russia with Love etc.
He wrote all his novels here in this house, his bed was made entirely with bamboo, Golden Eye, Jamaica.
